Why Choose an FAGD or MAGD Dentist?

If your dentist is a Fellow or Master of the Academy of General Dentistry (FAGD or MAGD), they are the best of the best in the field. Only about 6 percent of general dentists in the U.S. and Canada are AGD Fellows, and less than 2 percent are AGD Masters. You can rest assured that your dentist cares about knowing the latest techniques and best practices in dentistry. Your dentist practices these techniques in a classroom setting multiple times a year — not every dentist does this.

To become an AGD Fellow, a dentist must:

  • Complete over 500 credit hours of continuing education.
  • Earn 350 of those 500 credits in live courses.
  • Pass an exam equal in difficulty to board certification exams.

To become an AGD Master, a dentist must:

  • Complete over 1,100 credit hours of continuing education.
  • Earn 400 of those 1,100 credits in hands-on courses.
  • Pass an exam equal in difficulty to board certification exams.

Has Your Dentist Earned Their Fellowship or Mastership?

To determine which dentists have achieved their fellowship or mastership, check for “FAGD” or “MAGD” in their title. You can also use our Find a Dentist tool to see if your dentist is a member. Check the box within the search tool to search exclusively for Fellows and Masters.

Why Choose Us?

Some of Our Services

  • Dental exams and cleanings

Your first visit at our office is very important in establishing your oral health baseline. We will perform a complete oral examination which includes an oral cancer screening, periodontal evaluation, an analysis of your occlusion (bite) and a thorough examination of your teeth, their supporting structures and of the oral anatomy.

  • Periodontal treatment

Periodontal treatment methods depend upon the type and severity of the disease. Periodontal disease progresses as the sulcus (pocket or space) between the tooth and gums gets filled with bacteria, plaque and tartar, causing irritation to the surrounding tissues. When these irritants remain in the pocket space, they can cause damage to the gums and eventually, the bone that supports the teeth. If the disease is caught in the early stages of gingivitis, and no permanent damage has been done, one to two regular cleanings will be recommended.

  • Endodontic treatment

Root canal therapy is needed when the nerve of a tooth is affected by decay or infection. This simple treatment can save your natural teeth and prevent the need of dental implants or bridges. Symptoms of the infection are generally acute dental pain or sensitivity to hot, cold or percussion. If you experience any of these symptoms, your dentist will most likely recommend root canal therapy to eliminate the diseased pulp.

  • Extractions and wisdom teeth removal

When tooth removal is necessary, we can perform simple and surgical extractions using local anesthesia.

  • Pediatric dentistry

We take pride in creating and maintaining beautiful and healthy smiles for our younger patients in an environment that is lighthearted and fun. We focus on establishing oral health habits that last a lifetime, with education and prevention as our primary tools.

Carmichael Dentist

My family and I were over visiting friends, when my wife experienced excruciating toothache. She could not wait for us to return home and was desperate for immediate treatment. She saw Dr. Patel whose treatment made her feel so much better. The confidence and personable way with which he operates immediately made us feel comfortable and at ease. He then advised her how to care for it and what diagnosis we should take to our dentist back home, which was all spot on. He saved our vacation! The state my wife was in, without his help, we basically would not have had one. I would definitely recommend this practice.

Office is welcoming, light and airy. Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. Dr. Patel and his staff provide excellent care.
